Eugene Opera

article by Eugene Opera

Eugene Opera opens 2023 with Puccinis beloved masterwork, La bohème, performed in the Silva Concert Hall with Andrew Bisantz conducting the Eugene Opera Orchestra and Chorus. This quintessential work of Italian opera tells the story of Mimì, a seamstress, and her love for the poet Rodolfo. In the garrets of Paris, their love blossoms among the shadow of her worsening illness and impending death. With soaring melodies and heartbreaking emotion, this opera breathes hope into tragedy with every phrase.

One of the most performed and well-loved operas, La bohème debuted February 1, 1896 at the Teatro Regio in Turin, and was conducted by 28-year-old Arturo Toscanini. Whether you’ve never seen this classic Italian masterpiece or you’ve seen it a dozen times, don’t miss this performance!

The opera is sung in Italian with English Subtitles, and directed by Nathan Troup. It features Derrek Stark as Rodolfo, Vanessa Isiguen as Mimi, Brooklyn Snow as Musetta, Nicholas Davis as Marcello and Benjamin Brady as Colline.

There are two performances only: 7:30 pm on Friday, January 27 and 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 29 at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are on sale now at eugeneopera.org
