The 68th Annual Celebration of Business

article by Amanda Kinsella | COO, Eugene Chamber

Join the Eugene Chamber as we celebrate the 68th Annual Celebration of Business on May 23rd at the Graduate Eugene. It is with this annual event that we come together as a community to recognize the hard work and accomplishments put forth by Eugene businesses throughout the year. Two community citizens are recognized annually during this celebration, including The First Citizen and the Future First Citizen.

The Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce has presented The First Citizen award each year since 1938 to an individual who has made notable contributions to our community through business and community service efforts. This year’s recipient, Sue Prichard, was selected by a panel of former First Citizen honorees. Sue retired from Commercial Real Estate as a Broker and over the years has been an advocate for revitalizing our downtown core. Sue has always felt that downtown Eugene is an important reflection of the larger community.

Respected as an influential leader, Sue has made a tremendous impact on our community. She has advocated on behalf of underserved communities and moved initiatives forward to ensure a legacy for generations to come. Her commitment and service deserves to be recognized and the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to honor her with this distinguished award.

“I am so surprised and honored to receive this award.” says First Citizen honoree, Sue Prichard. “I only hope that some of the challenges I have faced and overcome throughout my life and career will inspire others to have hope for their own futures.”

This year’s celebration boasts a great number of community leaders and hard working community citizens. Attendees of this year’s event will hear from these leaders about our community’s efforts to address homelessness and the housing shortage, and ways the community can seize opportunities coming to Eugene as we host the World Athletic Championships in July. Prominent business leaders from our community will share their roles and strategies to improve the greater Eugene area for generations to come.

The Eugene Chamber has seen remarkable tenacity and strength within our community, persevering through many obstacles over the past two years. We are proud to be a part of this community and to play our part by working collectively as business leaders to solve the challenges facing our community. For this reason, we look forward to celebrating this community, our First Citizen, and our Future First Citizen on May 23rd. We hope you will join us!
